Occasionally asked questions
General
Q: How will I know if my commission does NOT get picked?
A: You simply will not recieve an email at all! I send out the emails on the day the form closes. Make sure to check your spam folder too!
Q: Is there any way to reserve a slot ahead of time?
A: No, that wouldn’t be fair to others.
Q: You didn't take my request last time, can i submit it again next month?
A: Yes, you can submit the same response to the form as many times as you want! Just keep in mind that doesn't necessarily increase its chance of being accepted.
Q: I've been submitting the same request over and over, and you haven't accepted it, why is that?
A: Most likely, it's something that I feel is out of my artistic comfort zone. If I don't accept your request for the same submission multiple times, I would recommend trying a different prompt, or looking for other artists who would be more comfortable with your request!
Q: I got a commission from you last month, can I submit another request this month too?
A: Yes, but I do try to prioritize people who didn't get their job taken in the last batch, just to give more people a chance!
Q: Can I commission a piece as a gift for somebody else?
A: Yes, but please make sure it's 100% okay with the other person if you do!
Q: I'm interested in a commission that's ONLY a simple character (eg. a simple animal or pokemon character), how would that be priced?
A: I don't have a set price for this because they don't get requested often, but it definitely wouldn't be full price. Feel free to send a reference and we can discuss the price on an individual basis.
Q: Can my commission involve YOUR characters?
A: Yes! It does depend on what you have in mind (eg. I wouldn't be comfortable drawing my characters romantically involved with characters that aren't my own), but otherwise I'm definitely open to it! I'd also give a bit of a discount out of courtesy.
The commission process
Q: How is my place in the queue decided?
A: It’s based on the order of who pays the invoice! It just keeps things simple and moving smoothly. Basically if you pay first, your commission will likely be started immediately.
Q: I'm in the second group, do I still have to reply to the initial confirmation email within 48 hours?
A: You don't have to! It does help to know that the email got to you, but you aren't obliged. That said, the 48 hour time limit WILL apply once you get the email requesting payment.
Q: Is there any way for me to check when you’ll start on my commission?
A: There’s no official way, but you’re more than welcome to message me about it any time and I’ll give you a rough estimate on when I’m planning on starting your piece.
Q: I want something changed but it's hard to describe it with words, is it okay to draw over/'redline' your sketch?
A: Yes! If you feel up to it, please go for it. It doesn't have to be good or clean, just as long as it clearly shows where you want the changes.
Etc.
Q: May I post my piece on twitter, tumblr, etc./will you be posting the finished piece?
A: Of course! If the commission involves an OC, I usually prefer to let the client post their finished piece and tag me, but I’ll do it if specifically asked. If the commission is fanart related (eg. Fire Emblem characters or something), I prefer to post those ones on my own!
Q: Is it okay if I don’t post it anywhere and just keep it private?
A: Sure! If it's an OC commission, it's no skin off my back. Related to the above, however, I may ask to post any fanart commissions and keep you anonymous unless it's VERY important to you that it be kept private.
Q: Can I get a transparent version?
A: Of course! I include a Transparent version for free regardless. The exception is if the character is so integrated to the background that there’s no easy way to separate them from it (eg. a character hanging out in a tree surrounded by branches or something).
Q: Can I use my finished piece as an icon?
A: Yes! I do appreciate it if you credit me in your bio but I'm not too bothered by it either way.
The Terms (of service)
You may NOT use your finished commission for profit in any way (eg. selling it as physical merchandise such as shirts or prints) without permission. That said, you're welcome to print it as physical merch as long as it's solely for personal use.
Related to above, you may not use the finished work in anything related to blockchain technology, such as NFTs.
Full refunds will only ever be given at the rough sketch stage at most. A partial refund can be issued in rare cases where the full commission can't be finished (eg. due to illness or personal circumstances). The amount refunded will depend on the amount of work finished.
All prices are in CAD!
Base character prices
Bust: $75
Half: $100
Full: $140
Shading options
Flats: just the basic flat colours, no hints of shading at all. Flat colours are free for all sizes!
Highlights: a rim of light around the edges of the character to add a bit of depth. Will add an additional cost of $10 (bust), $15 (half-body) or $25 (full-body)
Simple shading: the character will have consistent 'cel' shading, however there will be no use of reflective light or soft brushes to create additional depth. Will add an additional cost of $20 (bust), $30 (half) or $45 (full).
Full shading: the piece will feature reflected light in the shadows, soft shading and highlights when needed, and more detail in some of the textures like fur (when applicable). Will add an additional cost of $45 (bust), $60 (half) or $100 (full).
Extra characters
Extra characters will be full price unless significantly cut off by the composition. For example, a flat-coloured piece with two characters standing side by side, fully in frame ($140 each) would cost $280, but if one of the characters was significantly covered by a prop or part of the scenery, they would be treated as a half character ($100) and the total price would come down to $240.
Simple, small extra characters such as pets are treated more as props and will be no extra charge. Larger or more detailed animals have no set prices and are negotiable.
Shading charges are per character! Please keep this in mind when requesting multiple characters with shading so you're not surprised by the final price.
See below for visual examples!
Background Prices
Simple patterned circle backgrounds are free!
Painted backgrounds have three tiers, starting with basic:
BASIC ($65): most natural outdoor scenes or VERY simple interiors count as basic backgrounds. A nature scene that features a LOT of flowers or detailed vegetation may be bumped up to one of the higher tiers.
DETAILED ($100): outdoor scenes heavily featuring buildings (eg. a city or the outside of a house) will count as a detailed background. Nicely decorated interiors will too.
COMPLEX ($150): outdoor scenes involving elaborate structures (eg. a fantasy castle town or a crowded amusement park) or extremely busy interiors (eg. an extravagant, fully-furnished bedroom or a sci-fi spaceship interior with a lot of machinery and tech stuff) will count as complex backgrounds. As mentioned before, a fully natural scene may count as this if it involves a ton of flowers or other plants.
As always, if you want clarification on how something would be priced that isn't answered here, feel free to message me!
Will and won't do:
Yes:
Furry
Humans
Animals
Monsters
Oc x canon stuff
Light blood
Maybe/negotiable:
Robots (depends on the amount of mechanical detail! If you're not sure, feel free to show me your character and I'll tell you if it seems like something that's within my capacity.)
Super detailed outfits/armour (may be subject to additional charges. Again, feel free to show me your character if you're not sure!)
Furry characters with a LOT of complex fur patterns (again again, feel free to show me your character if you're not sure.)
Ref sheets
Drawing characters based on photo collages rather than an existing drawn reference
Original character designs from scratch (I can do these, but if there end up being a lot of revisions required to get the design to a point that you're happy with, I will have to add an extra charge based on the amount of extra time they add to the total commission process.
No:
Any kind of hate art targeted towards minority groups
NSFW (pinup style drawings are okay; imagine what would or would not be okay to show in a pg-13 setting.)
Any kind of fetish art, including 'technically' safe for work fetishes (eg. transformation, inflation, etc.). There's some leeway with this (eg. I wouldn't necessarily consider a normal-sized character hanging out with Stuart Little as macro/micro fetish content), so if you're not sure, please don't hesitate to ask!
Any sort of suggestive art of characters who are under 18
Incest and/or adult x minor pairings
Realistic depictions of firearms (obvious toy guns or sci-fi style laser blasters are fine)
Heavy gore (including 'candy' gore)
Real person portraits. This includes any characters from live action TV shows or movies that are depicted by human actors. This may also apply to characters from video games who are virtually identical to their actors (eg. most of the Death Stranding characters.)
